Orange shades and wooden elements are also popular in oriental designs. While Chinese-inspired beds can be placed on a high platform, Japanese designs, on the other hand, go for low platform beds. Are you going for the Chinese or Japanese style?

You can never go wrong with Oriental bedroom designs when you choose to go with nature as an important element. Think along the lines of scenic landscapes, flora and fauna, driftwood, or even different plants. Use these as the decorative elements for your bedroom. If you want a more impactful room, use traditional birds as your main decor. With these elements put together, you can experience a relaxing slumber

Not all Asian styles follow minimalism. This concept, however, is a primary influence in Japanese designs. The Zen-inspired theme follows symmetry and balance, uses simple colors, and does away with clutter. If you’re one to dislike owning a lot of things and you want your home to look and feel clean and clutter-free, you can then use Zen inspiration for your bedroom.

9 Tips to Add Warmth To Bedroom Without A Heater

In our previous post, we’ve shared with you some tips on how to make your living room feel cozy despite the harsh cold of winter. This time, let’s move on to the bedroom and make it a place of cozy slumber and wonderful dreams. Even if the months are too cold, you can still add warmth to bedroom even without the help of a heater.

Instead of automatically turning up the heater or relying too much on the heating system, consider using alternatives to add warmth to the bedroom. You would want to lower the utility costs, especially in this particular room in the house where you only go to sleep.

If you can reduce energy consumption, wouldn’t that be great? Plus, you’re also livening up the area so that it will be pleasing to the eyes and comforting to the soul. It’s a win-win actually. Here are 9 ways you can warm up your bedroom without needing the heater.

#1. Check for cracks and drafts

Give your bedroom a routine check, especially the window area, for some leaks and gaps that might let warm air from the inside leak to the outside. Not only will you be preventing warm air leakage and energy waste, but you’ll also keep unwanted bugs outside. Check for these leaks and you might want to caulk it.

#2. Invest in thick bedding

Winter is the time for you to invest in your bedding and say goodbye to (or put away) those thin stylish bedding you have over the summer. Just heat up the room with thick layers of bedding so you don’t have to turn up the heater. Instead of satin sheets, it’s time to get the flannel sheets and the comforter out. If you may, there’s an electric blanket to help with the extra warmth as well.

#3. Ceiling fan rotation

Ceiling fans are helpful to keep you cool in the summer but it can also blow warm air during colder months. Most ceiling fans allow you to switch the rotation so that the blades turn clockwise (instead of the usual counterclockwise) so that warm air from the ceiling will be sucked in and distributed downward in the room.

#4. Use a space heater

In this case, you’ll still be using a heater but not the main heating system. To have a sound sleep, the room temperature should be ideally at 65 degrees Fahrenheit. A space heater or portable heater lets you add warmth to bedroom without consuming too much energy. Be mindful of its usage though. This device is great in the master bedroom but not in a child’s room.

#5. Wintry sleepwear

Sometimes, you might have to deal with a cooler room especially when it’s shared. If you still want to keep things warm, put on socks and hat, before hiding under the covers. You can have that coveted cozy time in the bed and better sleep.

#6. Bed Position

While this doesn’t apply to all homeowners, positioning the bed in the right place is a great idea to have that warmth in the bedroom. If your bed is placed near the window, it’s a great idea to move it away from that spot.

#7. Area rugs work wonders
Make your room ready for winter.

Need we say more? Area rugs are always a perfect addition to any room at any season, but more so in winter. Not only does this add beauty to the room but it’s very functional as it provides extra warmth and keeps your feet warm.

#8. Bring out the thick curtains

As with any room in the house, curtains can either add warmth or make a house cooler. In winter, use thicker curtains and cover the windows. And while you’re at it, choose a bright color just so you can diminish the winter blues.

#9. Old school hot-water bottle

This method still works. Just place a hot-water bottle under your bed sheets when it’s time to hit the sack. Another way is to invest in a bed-heater. They may consume energy but they’re more efficient compared to turning up the home thermostat for that needed warmth.

Ready to snuggle up and get cozy in the bedroom this winter?

When you want the perfect attic bedroom, you need to consider a few tips. Work on your ceiling – for instance, whitewash it. Don’t shy away from using all white. Be clever when using light fixtures as you will need more light in there. Since you will be dealing with awkward spaces in the attic, consider measuring all the nooks and crannies. Take the measurements downstairs and try to compare the measurements of available furniture to see if something fits. Will your attic be big enough for a queen-sized bed, or will it be just enough to accommodate a single bed?

You also have to embrace the fact that you have a small attic – most houses do. And for that, think about who’s going in there. Attic bedrooms are perfect for children since they’re small. Turning an attic into a kid’s room is also a popular choice among homeowners.

When designing an attic bedroom, be smart with storage as well. This way, you can maximize every bit of space you have. You can do this by putting in functional furniture. For instance, you can use a bed with built-in storage.
